Quillan is 5 minutes drive from Hameau de Laval and has a wide range of restaurants, 2 supermarkets (Champion and Ed) a twice weekly market, and a variety of quaint small town French shops.
There is a swimming pool which is open over the summer vacation, a gym, theatre, cinema and an active night life particularly during the summer holidays.
Quillan has a train station which is on the route to Limoux and Carcassonne. Trains are roughly 3 times a day and there are busses every 1 or 2 hours.
Quillan runs either side of the Aude river and includes a popular raft and canoe slalom, this has the thrill of white water, but without the near vertical drops to be found further up the Aude. La Forge (Tel: 0468 20 23 79), located at the centre of Quillan offers white water rafting trips and canoe hire.
Quillan also has 'L'Escalade' - a practice climbing site very close to the town where the erosion of the river Aude has cut into the Pyrenees mountains, to create a beautiful cathedral of limestone, sharp ridges and natural channels.
As well as l'Escalade, there is Forest Grimp (Tel: 04 68 20 23 79), where ropes are suspended between trees to create over 15 aerial games - some up to 200m long on ropes and suspended cables.

If you're visiting in the summer, we highly recommend the Folklore Festival - a week long

There are also performances and other events in the town square at other times of the year
